As I think back, my story started when I was in third grade (3rd grade).  As I progress through elementary and college, I begin to question the why of many things.  As some said earlier, at age twelve or so, I began seeing that something different was moving around inside me.  I had little interest in the normal things my friends were interested in.  My main interest was shooting pool (later as a pool hustler), yes... even at the age of twelve.  

After a very successful career as a U.S. Army Officer, followed by a 2nd very successful career as a Correctional Counselor with the California Department of Corrections, I decided to review both careers to understand the why of my success better.  This review led me back to what I  call "My Six-Pack" and the manner in which the members of "My Six-Pack" raised me.  My Six Pack, Mom, Dad, Uncle Joe, Uncle Raymond, Uncle Chest, and GrandMa!  They were all Story Tellers!  Storytelling was apparently the only way they each felt that they could get into my mind!  They entered through what I now call the back door.  It was as if they had to trick me into hearing what they were saying.   In retrospect, I realize I used storytelling to communicate with my soldiers in the military and with the men and women I worked with during my time as a correctional officer with the State of California.

The aforementioned is what led me to my "Back Door Secrets."  I am absolutely convinced that storytelling is a highly effective way of communicating your ideas to others.

What Was My Secret?  

#1.  I would not compromise my values.

#2:  I had an internal compass that always pointed to "True North," which was a gift provided to me by "My Six Pack!"

#3.  I followed my "gut Feelings" far more than I followed "the Rules!"
