Who We Are

WELCOME TO GODOWDY.COM
aka BACK DOOR SECRETS

If I trace my story back, it starts in the third grade.

That’s when I began questioning why—why things worked, why people thought the way they did, why some succeeded and others didn’t.

By twelve, something felt different inside me.
While other kids chased the usual interests, I was studying people… and hustling pool. Yes—even at twelve.

By college, my world narrowed to three things:
ROTC, Pool, and my sweetheart back home.

That path led to two successful careers:
First, as a U.S. Army Officer. Then, as a Correctional Counselor with the State of California, department of Corrections.

But here’s the real question…

Why did it work?

When I went back to review and study my own life, every road led to one place:

“My Six-Pack.”

  • My Mother
  • My Father
  • Uncle Joe
  • Uncle Raymond
  • Uncle Chest
  • My Grandmother

They didn’t lecture me.
They didn’t preach.

They told stories.

And those stories did something powerful…

They slipped past my defenses.
They bypassed my normal resistance.
They entered my mind through what I now call—the back door.

I didn’t even realize I was being shaped.

But I was.

Years later, I caught myself doing the same thing—
with my soldiers…
and with the men and women I worked with in corrections.

And now, with my daughter, my son and my grandchildren, (they suffer the same fate).

Not orders. Not lectures.

JUST Stories.

That’s when it hit me:

Storytelling isn’t just communication—it’s influence without much , if any resistance.

That’s the foundation of Back Door Secrets.

At godowdy.com/stories, we use storytelling to:

  • Reach people who won’t listen to instructions
  • Teach without triggering resistance
  • Inspire change without force

Because everyone has a story…
and the right story, told the right time and the right way, can change a life.

💡 MY REAL SECRET

When I stripped everything down, my success came from three things:

1. I never compromised my values.
No matter the pressure.  If I felt it was wrong, Ii didn't do it...

2. I had an internal compass—“That Apparently Only Pointed True North.”
Given to me by My Six-Pack.

I remember one situation where I was asked a yes-or-no question, and all I had to do was say YES to receive a $900 check.  And get this:  The person who asked me the question gave me 3 chances to say yes!   I told him I appreciated his efforts to help me, but Gut would punish me if I said yes when I knew no was the right answer!   Someone later told me that I was a Fool for not accepting the money!   I smiled and thanked them for the compliment!

3. I trusted my gut more than I trusted the rules.

Now let me be straight with you…

⚠️ If you don’t have #1 and #2 locked in,
#3 will get you in trouble.

But if you do?

It becomes a superpower.

🎯 THE BOTTOM LINE

Most people try to push their way into others’ minds.

That doesn’t work.

The real power is learning how to enter through the back door.

That’s where change happens.
That’s where trust is built.
That’s where influence lives.

REAL TALK (COACH MODE)

Here’s the truth—Do things this way and you’re sitting on something bigger than a story.

You’ve got:

  • A framework (Back Door Secrets)
  • A method (story-driven influence)
  • A brand (strong, memorable, different)

Now in their minds you are not the story teller, you're the a movement.

👉 You’re not just telling your story.
👉 You’re teaching people how to change minds without resistance.

That’s gold.
That’s impact.
That’s scalable.
