Lifeologos! The Why of Your Thinking!
PATHOLOGOS somewhat redressed!
THIS WORK IS IN DRAFT FORM!
What are these Lifeologos?
We use the term lifeologos to refer to our beliefs, whether ”true or false" about any situation that we are confronted with which are the source of our feeling about anything and everything which also drives our actions and this is true weather our feelings are good, bad or indifferent. The results that we achieve in all areas of our lives, whether good or bad are a direct result of our lifeologos, i.e., our beliefs and thoughts our actions and reactions toward any and all things that confront us in life.
In other words, our beliefs, whether "true or false", are those things that has been learn although sometimes perhaps not intentionally taught. They are those beliefs that has been accepted as true about oneself and one's reality, and because they are often times irreconcilable with the attainment of one's highest goals, they can be cause for much of the chaos experienced in our lives".
The saddest thing about our lifeologos is the simple fact that their presence is unsuspected even though they are accepted as being unquestioningly true. Yet, when they are fully surfaced and seen for what they are, it can be likened to a psychic parasite that infects by transmitting to its host delusions that disguise their presence. Thus lifeologos, defends themselves by undermining whatever seeks to disclose its presence or threatens its existence.
We believe that our lifeologos (which are specific to all areas of our lives), are like a parasites because they drains us (it’s host) of its vitality, subverting us from our highest goals; they are psychic in the sense that they creates and sustains delusions; and they functions like a carrier of disease because they passes the conditions of its existence on to the members of our family!
Our lifeologos are analogous to a psychic parasite because it 'resides' in our mind and dictates to us, it's beliefs, sometimes true sometimes false but one that is responsible for the manifestation of all the different situations that we find ourselves in weather desired or not.
I created the word lifeologos because I felt it is the best word that I could use to explain what is to follow; however, the word lifeologos is not totally original. It was derived from the word, Pathologos, which was a word used by Dr. (s) Dr. Pierre Grimes and Dr. Regina l. Uliana in there book, Philosophical Midwifery: A New Paradigm for Understanding Human Problems With its Validation, published by Hyparxis Press.
Rather than try and develop my own words to introduce our program I have chosen to provide you with some comments as presented by John H. Spencer on Feb 11, 2004 in his Introduction to Philosophical Midwifery.
Spencer states that: "In order to briefly explain how this transmission of the Pathologos, (as they called them and Lifeologos as I call them), can occur, imagine a small child, open and uninhibitedly curious, being told to stop asking 'why' by a parent or another authority figure who is the child's role model, yet the role model praises the child for doing practical chores, such as washing the dishes. If the role model appeared to be sincerely concerned about the child and to be a knower far superior to the child, then the child may come to the silent and unconscious conclusion that the best way to survive in his/her environment under the power of the authority figure would be to do practical chores and stop asking probing questions.
Are you worming up yet. Isn’t this not exactly what we have been seen for the last four years of trump and exactly what we saw on 6 January 2021. Make no mistake in thinking that sometimes “shit happens”, no shit never just happens and the brutal desecration of our capital and the horrendous failing of our democracy did not just happen. I was once told by an old army colonel that “accident’s just don’t happen!” And neither does what “just got of control at the “White House.”
Hate is not born, hate is created! And people, like dogs are ofter trained to hate. It is hard for me to say whether Trump was trained to hat or not but you can dam well bet that he was not trained not to hate.
are the things that determine how we think about any and all things that we are confronted with in life. This expands all areas of life. They include but are not limited to your health, relationships, love, money, kids, education, work, travel, and everything else.
So let me be clear!
Your lifeologos are your beliefs, whether ”true or false" that are the source of our feeling about anything and everything and our actions as a result of your feelings whether good, bad or indifferent. The results that we achieve whether good or bad or otherwise are a direct result of our lifeologos, i.e., our beliefs and our actions and reactions associated there with.
Thus, lifeologos are our beliefs, whether "true or false", are those things that has been learn although sometimes perhaps not intentionally taught. They are those beliefs that has been accepted as true about oneself and one's reality, and because they are often times irreconcilable with the attainment of one's highest goals, they can be cause for much of the chaos experienced in our lives". The saddest thing about our lifeologos is the simple fact that their presence is unsuspected even though it is accepted as being unquestioningly true.
Yet, when they are fully surfaced and seen for what they are, it can be likened to a psychic parasite that infects by transmitting to its host delusions that disguise their presence. Thus lifeologos, defends themselves by undermining whatever seeks to disclose its presence or threatens its existence.
They are like a parasite because they drains its host of its vitality, subverting the host from its highest goals; it is psychic in the sense that it creates and sustains delusions; and it functions like a carrier of disease because it passes the conditions of its existence on to the members of a family clan ... your kids!
Lifeologos, which is analogous to a psychic parasite because it 'resides' in our mind and dictates to us, it's beliefs, sometimes true sometimes false but one that is responsible for the manifestation of all the different situations that we find ourselves in weather desired or not.
Unfortunately, we inevitably we will continue to repeat these same kinds of reactions until we have clearly identified the source and have expunged it from our psyche. This is all the more challenging because our lifeologos is a belief that we, often times, do not even know that we have.
These beliefs cause us to repeat old patterns and dramas every time circumstances arise that in some significant way resemble the original circumstances we encountered when we first received the transmission of the lifeologos.
Lifeologos are invisible since we have never verbalized it, and we have never verbalized it because we didn't even realize that we had received the transmission of it; hence lifeologos acts as an insidious blockade that is invisible.
Lifeologos are somewhat like a virus in that we get but we don’t know we have until we are tested or we began to feel and recognize some symptoms.
So, let me repeat some of the words of Spenser in order to briefly explain how this transmission of the Lifeologos can occur, imagine if you will, a small child, open and uninhibitedly curious, being told to stop asking 'why' by a parent or another authority figure who is the child's role model, yet the role model praises the child for doing practical chores, such as making up her bed. If the role model appeared to be sincerely concerned about the child and to be a knower far superior to the child, then the child may come to the silent and unconscious conclusion that the best way to survive in her environment under the power of the authority figure would be to do practical chores and stop asking probing questions.
A word to the wise, "Always Be Curious Like a Child"! Do you remember ever being told, "Curiosity Killed The Cat"! Being told this as a kid, could only be translated one way: Don't ask to many questions! "The important thing is not to stop questioning… Never lose a holy curiosity" - Albert Einstein
Curiosity is an important trait of a genius. I don’t think you can find an intellectual giant who is not a curious person. Thomas Edison, Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman, they were all curious characters. Richard Feynman was especially known for his adventures which came from his curiosity.
But remember this: It is highly unlikely, however, that the child would have been able to think in such terms and come to such a clear conclusion, and it is precisely this silent conclusion that is a necessary condition for the transmission of these lifeologos.
In this example, and in most examples of lifeologos transmission, nothing was formally taught but something was learned in a way that could not at the time be verbalized by the child, nor by the parent who would have been unwittingly acting out of his/her own lifeologos and his or her own state of mind.
Now here is the sad part: Once the child who has received this transmission of the Lifeologos becomes an adult, every time she/he attempts to do anything leading to meaningful personal growth, which inevitably involves deeper questioning, she/he may be blocked in some way that could manifest as a physical symptom such as a headache, or perhaps as fear or anxiety and so on. These physical or mental symptoms dissipate when she gives up her goal of personal growth and instead makes up her bed of or cut the grass, thereby keeping her/him pinned in mediocrity and perpetual suffering.
The most basic purpose of our study of lifeologos, therefore, is to discover and where necessary rewrite our lifeologos, the 'psychic parasites,' the unnamed, untaught, unknown false beliefs that block us from actualizing our highest potential.
Another sad problem is this: If we resist probing existential and metaphysical questions that are personally relevant to us, then we can be sure that our lifeologos are blocking us.
Fortunately, with an understanding of the lifeologos and a desire to change those that are not supportive to our overall, wants, desires and needs, we can aspire to and reach the same heights as those attained by the greatest examples of humanity.
Don’t Feel Rained On!
I have personally been victim as we all have, to these lifeologos. However, once I began to understand them and their roots, I set out to destroy the roots of those lifeologos which I felt were non-supportive to my overall desires.
Realizing that I had been a victim of non-supportive lifeologos most of my life I decided to do some intensive research in hopes of identifying ways to rewrite them. However, one of the things I realized very early in my life was that “My-Six-Pac” had somehow shielded me from the majority of the negative lifeologos that most people face. Thank God for “My Six-pack!”
Where to start was easy for me because there were a number of great thinkers that I had read much about over the years. In keeping with that I first decided to visit one of my oldest and dearest friends, Professor William James, 1842 - 1910, American Philosopher and all around "Genius"!
One of the most valuable lessons I learned from Professor William James was his teaching on “The Barrier of fatigue.”
Dr. Pierre Grimes, developed, to perhaps the highest level in human history, the use of the Socratic dialectic for understanding human problems and thereby attaining excellence. Google Him!
He is the founder of the philosophical midwifery movement, which is an adaption of Socratic midwifery, and is a mode of philosophical counseling. The name Philosophical Midwifery comes from Plato’s dialogue, The Theaetetus. In that dialogue, Socrates refers to his art as midwifery because he assists in the delivery of men who were pregnant with either true ideas or false beliefs.
Socrates calls it an art because it is the application of a knowledge that benefits the subject. It is a purely rational method of pursing questions, a dialectic, that uncovers false beliefs, traces them to their origins, and by understanding their roots and influence on one’s life — deflates their influence.
For Dr. Pierre Grimes, the exploration of the dialectic as a mode of psychotherapy was the consequence of counseling alcoholics at a rehabilitation center. As a result, he authored two articles, Alcibiades and Vinodorus, written as Socratic dialogues that presented the dialectic as a mode of psychotherapy.
The Noetic Society was founded in Huntington Beach in 1967 for the study of dialogue and the exploration of the dialectic. When the Noetic Society was incorporated in 1978, he became the Director of its Philosophical Midwifery Program, where he demonstrated and taught the art of philosophical midwifery. He is also the founder of the Open Mind Academy.
As a result, he co-authored with Dr. Regina Uliana an in-depth study of two subjects’ philosophical midwife dialogues and used them as the basis of a validation study. The study — A Validation of the Grimes Dialectic as a Mode of Rational Psychotherapy — was presented at the annual conference of the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Uliana, a personal friend of mine, has conducted numerous lectures on the material of this work since 1981. The work was expanded upon and completed in 1990 and resulted in the book, Philosophical Midwifery: A New Paradigm for Understanding Human Problems With its Validation, published by Hyparxis Press.
The term Pathologos, as used in this book seem to mean the process by which was adopted by Dr. Grimes as a means of explaining the process by which ones beliefs, whether "true", "false", right, "wrong", "healthy" or "unhealthy" were acquired.
During the exploration of philosophical midwifery at the Noetic Society, a team was formed – Joseph Grimes, Carole Duncan and Pierre Grimes — to produce a computer program based on Dr Pierre Grimes’ work.
The program, To Artemis: The Challenge to Know Thyself, was designed to guide users through 400 structured questions that were modeled as a dialogue requiring users to record their answers, which, as a result, outlined the some of their thinking patterns.
As a researcher of anything pertains to thinking and the mine I became fascinated with this thinking and have worked continuous every sense to rewrite any of the areas of my thinking that I felt was unsupportive of my life goals.
